Katie Short

My name is Katie Short and I am a senior at NYU Gallatin. I was inspired to start a blog not only because of my love for fashion, but also due to my time spent in France. The summer I lived at my friend Clementine’s house in Southern France remains the best summer of my life to this day. While walking through the small towns of Provence and breathing in the air full of cigarette smoke, fresh perfume, and summer sweat, I fell in love with the art of clothing. As I passed by people on the streets, I was consumed by one question: what are they wearing and why?

During my time in France, I realized that the current popular styles of dressing will significantly influence our perception of of the world, and has done so throughout history. Fashion allows us to expose our appearance, and provides a glance at each human’s unique individuality. Fashion gives us the opportunity to be ourselves in visionary, artistic form, in which we can start revolutions through our statements.

I am constantly inspired by the risks women have taken from their outfits: whether it were the flappers in the 20’s with the short hair cuts, the creation of the bikini by Louis Réard, or Coco Chanel’s acceptance of menswear for women. The impact of fashion is something that should never be underestimated, rather extravagantly celebrated.
